Box Revels 2023

Box Revels – May 29th 2023

We were again invited to provide a static display of model aircraft at the Box Revels this year, and were pleased to accept. Not only did it offer the chance for members to display their models, but there was also the opportunity to talk to model aircraft enthusiasts, and maybe even find a new member or two.

There was some concern about the weather leading up the big day, but we needn’t have worried; apart from a brisk breeze, the weather was warm and dry – perfect for the event.

Club members started to arrive at 10am for a noon start. Our pitch had already been marked out by the organisers, so the next hour was spent erecting the gazebo and the surrounding plastic mesh fence. Once everyone was happy with the set up, models were retrieved from the cars, assembled and arranged on the grass. In the gazebo itself, some indoor models were suspended from the roof and Iain’s famous “engine board” was given pride of place by the entrance. After a brief diversion to the coffee and doughnut stand we were ready to start.

Throughout the afternoon we had a steady stream of visitors, young and old, keen to examine the models and talk to the club members about every aspect of modelling. Some were keen to recount their own experiences of flying in the days of yore, others were keen to find out how they could get involved. Some just wanted to come and ogle the various models! At times, there were so many conversations with visitors going on that we were involved. Contact details for the club were available to visitors and many took them away for consideration.

By 4:30 the crowds were starting to drift away, the catering stalls had been cleaned out, and we called it a day. We all agreed that a great time was had and that we should do it again next year!

Thanks to Iain, Ben, Tony P, Tim and Mike H (and Mrs H who also came to add her support).
